Tap is the only form of dance which incorporates sound. Developed in the United States during the nineteenth century, tap has become popular all over the world. The name comes from the tapping sound made when the small metal plates on the dancer’s shoes touch a hard floor. This lively, rhythmic tapping makes the performer not just a dancer, but a percussive musician.
Tap classes will develop rhythm, style and sound. Students will learn a variety of tap styles from Broadway to Rhythm tap. Exercises focus on building flexibility of the knee and ankles, coordination, and speed of movement. Class emphasis is on developing proper tap technique and producing clear tap sounds.
