Contemporary is a dance performance genre developed during the mid 20th century and has since grown to become one of the dominant genres for formally trained dancers throughout the world. It is a style of expressive dance that combines elements of several dance genres including modern, jazz, lyrical and classical ballet. Dancers in this genre strive to connect the mind and the body through fluid dance movements.
Students will learn to use their bodies in a variety of ways. Traditional modern dance, release techniques, and intense athleticism are combined to attain a grounded sense of freedom within the body.
